Makeup Review: Benefit Cosmetics BADgal BANG! Mascara

Hello, beautiful soul! I haven’t probably mentioned it, or only a few know about it but mascara is my favorite makeup product. I love how fancy and flirty my eyes get whenever I wear it. A day without mascara is definitely a boring one. I’ve always been fascinated with it because it’s able to open up my eyes, and make my look brighter and approachable. Of course, I wanted a mascara that doesn’t clump, lengthens and maintains its curl even after 10 shots of tequila. Currently, Maybelline’s Lash Sensational and Loreal’s Lash Paradise are my favorites, but Benefit Cosmetics just released an out-of-this-world inspired mascara. I’m talking about the Benefit Cosmetics BADGal Bang! Mascara where famous beauty influencers were invited to Maldives for its launch party. It boasts its formula infused with aero-particles which promises to defy gravity; thus ability to hold curl for a long time.

Makeup Breakdown

Packaging:

The mascara comes in a black packaging with a matte-suede-like feels. Its length is 5.5 inches, weighs 8.5 grams for the full-size while and there’s 6 months for its PAO. Honestly, it feels luxurious to the touch. Take note that this mascara costs P1650.00 from Sephora.ph.

Shade:

This mascara comes in only one shade – intense pitch black.

Smell:

There’s no obvious or lingering scent in this mascara.

Application:

The applicator is unique. It’s the longest I’ve tried, but surprisingly, the easiest. First, I usually wiggle the applicator back and forth across my lashes’ roots, then brush it on the direction of my lashes. I do this method to make sure that I get to cover every lash strand I have. However, this BadGal Bang was so easy that I don’t need much wiggling action. I just brush it and everything’s good.

Performance:

• Upon application (8AM)

Looking at my picture, my lashes are naturally straight. I definitely need an eyelash curler before I apply mascara.

After application, here is how my lashes look. They definitely looked darker, longer and volumized. The mascara looks very sexy and flirty. I did not experience any clump upon application.

Speaking about its ability to hold the curl, the formula weighed down my just-curled lashes which definitely disappointed me.

• 12 hours after application (8PM)

This is the longest time I could wear the mascara. After 12 hours of wearing it, I could say that it’s NOT okay given its price point. It smudged and it started to do so on the 8th hour mark. I wonder how it would perform after 36 hours.

I asked a few of my friends of their thoughts on the mascara and I let them guess how much it actually cost.

Verdict:

Its first claim: 36 hours staying power while holding the curl. After testing it out for 12 hours, I was not impressed. I could still see the mascara yet it appeared less obvious than before. I was disappointed that it weighed down my curl.

Its second claim: Smudge proof, water-resistant and volumizing formula. Even if I just applied one coat, my lashes were volumized. Though the formula smudges, I can say that it played okay given that I have oily lids and I sweat a lot the whole day. I’ve seen worst and this mascara performed better.

Is this mascara worth the splurge?

No. I don’t think it is.

My Lash Paradise and Lash Sensational cost a fraction of this yet still does the same with this mascara. Also, I don’t think anybody would wear a mascara for 36 hours; but if they’re trying to point out of its staying power, then okay. Still, I say no.

Do I recommend this?

Definitely, no.

Save your money. There are a lot of equally good mascaras in the market that cost a lot less than this P1650.00-worth of makeup.
