Makeup Review: Wet N Wild Photo Focus Foundation

Hello beautiful soul! My quest to find the best natural-looking foundation has not yet stopped. Just like the mantra of Too Faced Born This Way Foundation, your-skin-but-better kind of thing also applies to this Photo Focus Foundation by Wet N Wild. Wet N Wild is a well-known international drugstore brand. I had to give this a try because who doesn’t want a steal? This retails for $5.99 from the Wet N wild website and I got this from Shoppee for only P299.00. This product claims to give the illusion of a perfect-looking skin which was tested under seven various photo lighting conditions. This is to ensure flawless and camera-ready skin without flashbacks. It claims to dry matte, diffuses light and delivers a no-filter-needed look.

Makeup Breakdown

Packaging:

The foundation comes in a glass packaging and it has a spatula for application. I still prefer my foundations with a pump but, well, it’s better to have something than nothing. You get 30 ML of liquid foundation.

Shade:

There are 20 shades to select from. This is not actually bad. I’m pretty sure that it’s easy for us Filipinos to find the shade that perfectly matches our skin tone. You can check it through the Wet N wild website.

Smell:

The smell is deadly. It smells like an expired alcoholic drink mixed with paint thinner. It’s strong upon its first open, but subsides just a little bit when already opened a few times. Good thing the smell does not linger after blending it on the skin.

Application:

I applied this foundation using a makeup sponge. I had no problems with blending because it was very easy to do so. It doesn’t dry fast so I really had time to work and blend it in. The foundation also dries matte and there’s no need to set it with powder anymore.

Performance:

I exfoliated my skin but forgot to moisturize before I applied the foundation. I used the whole product that the spatula was able to get, and it was able to cover my skin and my neck. To see how it performs alone, I will not retouch and won’t use any setting spray.

  • Upon application (9AM)

The foundation looks very flawless. I’m very impressed because even if I applied a second layer, it still remained skin-like. The coverage is between medium and full. I had no problems blending it with my concealer and putting blush, bronzer and highlighter over it. I could already tell that this foundation could be my go-to for parties and events where there would be photos taken because there’s seriously no filter needed.

I also tried to take a picture with flash so I could check its claim of having no flashbacks. Looking at my picture, it’s as if there’s flashback but I think otherwise. The shade that I got was just lighter and it has a different undertone than mine. I think that’s the reason why my face looks so white compared to my neck. I also got tanner because I had a lot of beach trips for the past few days.

  • 7 hours after application (4PM)

The weather in the Philippines is humid and hot which means nonstop sweat. I did so much while I was wearing the foundation – cooked, did my laundry and even took a shower. The foundation still looked good but I’ve observed that my textures were more obvious. Coverage-wise, it did not wear off and the color somehow blended with my tan and appeared less lighter compared to when it was just applied.

  • 9 hours after application (6PM)

The foundation has worn off on my nose area. My undereyes have creased as well, which I was only able to see when I used this foundation with my Colourpop concealer. The highlighter, blush and bronzer I applied could still be seen. My forehead stayed matte even if I didn’t retouch. Aside from the nose situation, my face still looked flawless.

Verdict:

Its first claim: skin-like effect. Yes, even if I applied another coat of foundation, my skin still looked like I was not wearing foundation. It dried matte which really looks like skin. It melted and adjusted a bit with my skin tone, though it took some time for it to do so.

Its second claim: no-filter perfection. True! It was so good-looking that I definitely don’t need to apply filter on my photos. However, the way it looked when first applied does not stay the same after a few hours. If you have no plans to touch up, then this foundation will only do you good for 2-3 hours. This is now my go-to foundation for photoshoots.

Its third claim: no flashbacks. I have yet to test that out because I’m currently tanner than my actual skin tone. I’ll give this a pass.

Is this foundation the best natural-looking foundation?

YES, YES, AND YES!

Do I recommend this?

IF YOU’RE ABLE TO GET YOUR HANDS ON IT… GRAB IT!

YOU DON’T EVEN HAVE TO THINK ABOUT IT!

Thank you for your time to read my post! See you again next time!

P.S. I was able to buy mine for only P299.00 because this was one of the products on the Flash Deals segment in Shoppee.
