If there’s one item in our nursery setup that deserves a standing ovation, it is our 3-tier diaper cart. Living in a condo with just a cozy amount of space, having a mobile station that easily reaches every room is an absolute game-changer. I’m writing this just a few days past our baby’s 1-month milestone, and this exact setup is what’s working amazingly well for us right now!
Honestly, this thing is our absolute best friend. When you’re half-asleep at 3 AM doing a diaper change or nursing in the dark, having literally everything you and baby need within arm’s reach is a complete lifesaver. If you’re currently prepping your baby station or just curious about how we keep our daily baby care organized, here is a full breakdown of how we organized each tier!
Top Tier: The Quick-Reach & Postpartum Essentials
Because this is at waist level, we use the top tier of our diaper cart for items we need to grab instantly with one hand—plus all of Mom’s essential middle-of-the-night survival gear.
Diaper Changing Mat: Unfolds in seconds right next to us so we can do diaper changes anywhere in the house. We also bring this exact mat with us whenever we step out!
Color-Changing Light Bulb: We keep this set to red at night—it keeps the room cozy and dim so baby doesn’t wake up fully during late-night changes.
Nipple Care Essentials: I use the Buds and Blooms Breastfeeding Cleansing Mist for a quick cleanse before baby latches, and I alternate between Lansinoh Nipple Cream and Buds and Blooms Nipple Nurse Well Cream depending on what my skin needs. I bring out the heavy-duty Lansinoh one when my nipples need extra relief!
Sanitizing & Prep: We use the Cradles Toy & Surface Cleaner to wipe down the changing mat (especially after messy changes!) to keep it fresh for baby. For quick skin cleanses, we pair the Mustela Sensitive No-Rinse Cleanser with soft cotton pads—we’re currently loving the ones from Moby. Last but definitely not least, we keep hand sanitizer right here to use before holding or carrying the baby.
Mom’s Midnight Essentials: My water bottle, lactation snacks (an absolute necessity!), eye mask for sleeping between feeds, and extra hair ties all live right on the top tier.
Baby Extras: A ready-to-go Ziploc bag with extra baby clothes for swift outfit changes after messier diaper moments, plus a roll of diaper trash bags.
Second Tier: Daily Diapering & Grooming
This middle layer of our diaper cart is strictly for the high-frequency daily routines: diaper changes, face wipes, and routine grooming.
Diaper Setup: This is where we keep the main diaper container stocked with diapers, wet wipes (the Organic Baby Wipes are our favorite), and dry wipes (we always repurchase the Kleenfant Premium Dry Cotton Wipes). We find that it’s easier to reach for these items in our case, as we usually do diaper changes on our bed or on our couch.
Hygiene & Care: We keep our stash here of Cotton Q-tips, mouth cleanser gauze for baby’s oral care, Moby Grooming Kit, and nose suction cleaner (essential for stuffy nose days!).
Bottom Tier: Backups, Health & Play
The bottom shelf of our diaper cart holds our bulk inventory, health items, C-section recovery gear, and a few sensory toys to keep baby entertained.
Overstock: Extra packs of wet and dry wipes so we never run out mid-change!
Baby Health Kit: Our digital thermometer, Tempra, electric nail file, and diaper rash cream are all kept together right here.
Postpartum Care: My C-section stomach binder from Love Momma lives on this shelf so it’s easy to grab right after I get changed.
Sensory & Play: Since our baby is only a month old, we keep high-contrast vision cards here, along with little wrist and ankle bell toys to help practice tracking movement during wake windows.
Bonus Organization: Side Hanging Cup Holders
We also attached two hanging cup holders to the sides of our diaper cart to maximize space—and honestly, they are game-changers!
Second Tier Holder (Mommy’s Quick Essentials): This one is dedicated entirely to me! I keep my hand lotion, nasal spray, Tiger Balm, a relaxing scent for quick stress relief, and a comb right here so I don’t have to hunt for them.
Bottom Tier Holder (Mini Trash Bin): We hang this on the lowest tier as a convenient small trash bin for quick toss-ables during changes.
Quick Tip for Expecting Parents
If you’re setting up your cart, don’t forget about yourself! It’s so easy to make the cart 100% about the baby, but adding my snacks, water, and recovery care to the top tier was the best decision I made.
