Makeup Review: Squad Cosmetics Boss Squad Eyeshadow Palette
Claims to offer superior blend-ability and awesome color payoff, the Squad Cosmetics Boss Squad Eyeshadow Palette features a mixed array of matte and shimmery shades. From light to deep cool natural tones, this palette is Squad Cosmetics’ way of empowering the Gen Z. Also, as a go-to makeup brand of teenagers, is this palette able to suffice the brand’s ethos: “We Got You!”?
Makeup Breakdown
Packaging:
The Squad Cosmetics Boss Squad Eyeshadow Palette comes in a peach plastic material. You have to be careful when you travel with this product because it is easy to break. The product looks appealing and quite luxurious because of the brand’s logo. However, the Squad Cosmetics Boss Squad Eyeshadow Palette doesn’t come with a mirror nor a brush.
According to the back of the palette, it weighs 17g, has a PAO of 24 months, and cruelty-free. Also, this palette is distributed by COSMETIX UNLIMITED INC. in Quezon City, Metro Manila, designed and formulated in Los Angeles, California, and made in China.
Shade:
The Squad Cosmetics Boss Squad Eyeshadow Palette has a total of 9 shades. The palette has four different formulas: (4) mattes, two (2) metallics, two (2) shimmers, and one (1) pearl. The shades have neutral tones with a hint of burgundy, maroon, and gold. Hence, this palette is versatile making it easy to do either a day or a night makeup look. I think the shades compliment each other that mix-and-match would be very easy.
Smell:
The Squad Cosmetics Boss Squad Eyeshadow Palette does not smell like anything. It is its plastic packaging that emits a faint smell that lingers for a bit on the product.
Price:
The price of the Squad Cosmetics Boss Squad Eyeshadow Palette is P199. You can get this at Shopee or Lazada. I think this product is cheap considering that it has 9 different shades with pans a tad bit bigger than a 10-peso coin.
Application:
The brand advises to apply the product through the following:
- Apply a primer all over the lids
- Apply eyeshadows using a brush
- Blend the edges for a natural gradient of colors
The products felt buttery smooth when I swatched them on my arm. However, it has a lot of kick-back when used with a brush. This is the case most especially for those with matte formulas. Make sure that you tap your brush after dipping in so there won’t be any fallout.
Performance:
I hope that there would be an improvement with the formula. I was a bit disappointed that a primer is still necessary to make the colors pop out and stay longer. It is also tricky to apply the shimmers and metallic shades. I advise using my fingers when applying it if you don’t have a primer.
I made two different looks – one for the night and another for the day.
Verdict: I don’t recommend this product!
Claims:
- Superior blend-ability
Although working with the matte and pearl formula is easy, I disagree that this product blends effortlessly. Whenever I tried to blend the shimmers and the metallics with my blending brush, they fade away. I had to mix them with a glitter primer to help the shimmers and metallics stay in place. Hence, a lot of effort, patience, and other products must be used to make it work.
- Awesome color payoff
Due to the powdery consistency of the four (4) mattes, it is difficult to get that awesome color payoff this product claims. Layering to make the color pop up results to a powdery finish and prone to fallout. However, the shimmery, pearly, and metallic formulas have an amazing color payoff, yet need the right tools and products to stay longer and put.
