Where to Stay in Siem Reap: Model Angkor Resort

One of the countries in Southeast Asia is the Kingdom of Cambodia. It was the first country I visited. Although I was in Cambodia for four times already, it has constantly kept me at awe. The coexistence of ancient and modern worlds can be seen through their unique architecture, like that of Model Angkor Resort.

It could also be gazed through the façade of their temples and tasted through their sumptuous food. One can also feel it through simply riding their local transportation medium which is tuk-tuk. Its laid-back atmosphere has constantly allured tourists, enough to be the reason for some to become permanent residents.

The architecture of Cambodia is heavily influenced by France’s long era of colonization which almost lasted for a century, and the fusion of Hinduism and Buddhism. I have observed that modern houses and buildings are well-ventilated due to their high ceilings and large windows. Their roofs steep and pointy at the middle and edges and wood is the main component. Since I was able to visit Cambodia again just last week, I, together with my mom and boyfriend’s family, stayed at a very beautiful place in Siem Reap which I fully recommend – Model Angkor Resort.

I found the Model Angkor Resort as I was skimming through Booking.com. It has beautiful pictures and reasonably-priced, too. It already has a buffet breakfast, super wide room area, and two amazing swimming pools – one freshwater pool and one saltwater pool. We really enjoyed our stay and I recommend this place. So, to know more of this place, just keep on reading!

Love at First Sight

Part of the booking of the resort is free airport shuttle service. Sam, the resort’s chauffeur, picked us up at the arrival terminal after we landed from our flight. I immediately felt the warm welcome as I waved to Sam and he flashed us his ear-to-ear smile. He spoke fluent English and we were able to understand each other very well. He was very jolly and easy to talk to. We didn’t notice that after around a 20-minute drive, we were already at the resort.

As we alight our van, we were already gushing how everything felt so serene, laid-back and light. The resort is nestled within private gardens and is far from the busy streets of Siem Reap.

We were offered complimentary drinks while we settled our payments. There were also cold towels for each of us to freshen up. The resort has tuk-tuks that can be hired wherever you want to go in the city. Mr. Py, our tuk-tuk driver, spoke English very well. He suggested places that we could visit to kill time as we wait for our check-in time.

Rooms

We were finally able to check in after visiting the National Museum and filling our tummies with classic Khmer dishes. One of our rooms is the Luxury Suit with Pool View which is good for 2 persons. Another is Family Suite which can accommodate up to 4 persons. Both rooms were clean and very spacious. There were fruits available, and locally-made teas such as moringa and lemongrass. Some of its facilities that I loved were its spa tub, extra long beds (>6.5 ft), and soundproof walls.

My Experience

Our one-night stay in Model Angkor Resort was worth the price. We paid for around Php 1,600 each. I believe that it was even cheap considering the cleanliness, beauty, and relaxed vibes of the place. The staff was very friendly and they helped make our stay as home-y as possible. They were all-smiles all throughout and they speak English very well. They were also very eager to help us enjoy our stay through suggesting places to visit.

In addition, we also loved the buffet breakfast which was inclusive of our room type. There was a wide variety of selection – English/Irish, Vegetarian, Asian, and American. There was also a chef who would cook Khmer noodles instantly upon your request. Other facilities are available on the resort. Truthfully, I would want to go back to try their Cooking class and Picnic at Angkor Wat.

With that being said, I really recommend this place. Most specially if you’re looking for a place to unwind, relax, and have a peace of mind. You may try to visit their website to know more about their promotions and discounts.
