The Truth About Wedding E-Invites
Wedding e-invites are now part of the wedding norm. It’s a fresh approach from the traditional printed wedding invitations. I think it reached its peak during the pandemic because of the barriers and difficulty of sending out physical invites. This is a result of modern communication trends and sustainability efforts.
My husband and I are a product of wedding e-invites. Having experienced it firsthand, below are the advantages and disadvantages of using it.
Pros of Wedding E-Invites
Convenience at its Peak
Wedding e-invites are very easy to share. Forwarding it is as easy as 1, 2, 3. Moreover, information is easy to update whenever there are changes. Lastly, guests can respond in real-time enabling quicker event planning and coordination.
Visually Engaging, Indeed!
We were able to integrate our pre-nup photos and video for a more personal feel. Also, there are motions applied which are based on user interface. Additionally are slideshows, carousels, icons and other visually-complimenting tools.
As Detailed as Possible
We’re able to add our full wedding timeline, colors, dress code and even outfit inspirations. Also, we’re able to list our recommended accommodations for guests to check. Parking and transfer details were also shared so guests won’t be stressed about it. We also shared the gifts we prefer to receive. All this and more can be added in to a wedding e-invite so that guests are fully-informed and guided.
Expectations are Clear as Day
We had a chance to share our rules and expound them as clearly as possible. This enables our guests to know what to expect. We were able to highlight also what’s important like RSVP deadlines and preferences like having an unplugged ceremony.
Yay, It’s Sustainable!
It’s cost-effective and eco-friendly! We were able to reduce paper use and waste, hence an environmentally conscious choice. Also, we were able to cut on printing and shipping fees. Though after some time, we pushed for a printed invitation. It’s more of a keepsake for our attending guests.
Cons of Wedding E-Invites:
Unequal Access
Truly, not all have ready available access to the internet. For some, even if they have, they’re short of being tech-savvy to maneuver the e-invite. Because of this, some would still prefer the physical invitations.
Seems Less Formal
Wedding e-invites may appear less formal to some. This is specially to those accustomed to the traditional paper invitations. It may further seem or feel less significant.
Pass on the Keepsake
Again, this is for those who are accustomed to the traditional invite. Aside from the lack of feel, some prefer the printed because it serves as a keepsake.
How We Made our Wedding E-Invites Work
To counter the cons of using a wedding e-invite, we maximized the use of social media. We created a group where we post to highlight the rules, timeline, and expectations. We publish our announcements every Saturday at 9AM and tag all guests so they’d be notified. Also, we also did some online raffle games to ensure that guests read through the page. Moreover, we did some personal follow-ups. We sent text messages to those who weren’t replying through online means. Also, we tapped their family members and close friends to ensure everything’s clear.
