Ready in a Bit with Happy Skin’s Second Skin Tinted Moisturizer

I’m so excited when I finally received my Happy Skin Second Skin Tinted Moisturizer. This is the first product that I’ve ever tried from the brand. I heard a few promising makeup products from them, but never got the chance to try.

Currently, I’m experiencing breakouts. I’m more interested in skincare now as I try to understand the reason for this sudden purge. I was hooked to this product claims since it’s advertised as a 3-in-1 product. Particularly, it combines the benefits of skincare, makeup and sunscreen in one go. Also, it claims to be a fuss-free shortcut to a healthy, hydrated, and glowing complexion. Secondly, it’s supposed to feel featherweight and non-sticky for a natural look. Thirdly, it has sheer to medium coverage that blurs blemishes, smoothen texture, tone down redness, and minimize the appearance of pores.

To be honest, the selling point for me was when I read that it was formulated to nourish while it perfects (just wow!). It has an amazing formula made of Hyaluronic Acid, Kahai Oil, Squalane, Niacinamide, SPF 20, and Anti-Blue Light Technology.

Here’s what you need to know about these ingredients and technology.

  • Hyaluronic Acid helps in retaining moisture for that hydrated look. Consequently, it helps to fight off signs of aging.
  • Kahai Oil is dubbed as a natural and safe retinol. It improves skin elasticity to repair and nourish fine lines and wrinkles caused by damaged and/or matured skin.
  • Squalane deeply moisturizes and strengthens the skin barrier. Also, squalane addresses redness and swelling.
  • Niacinamide acts like a protection against environmental damage while improving radiance and texture.
  • SPF 20 and Anti-Blue Light Technology protects from damage-causing UV and Blue Light rays.

Makeup Breakdown: Happy Skin Second Skin Tinted Moisturizer

Packaging:

The Happy Skin Second Skin Tinted Moisturizer is packaged in a nude oval-shaped plastic packaging. I would consider it quite bulky and it takes so much space. For reference, it’s bigger than the size of my palm. Hence, I don’t really think that it’s travel friendly. Since this is a liquid foundation, the PAO of this is 2 years.

The packaging is also twist-to-open. Nonetheless, it’s still easy to control the amount of product that you want to dispense since you can pinch the packaging’s body.

On the other end, this product contains 35 mL and is made in Taiwan.

Shade:

As of writing, this product has 5 different shades. I think that it’s a narrow shade selection and it would cater for limited complexion. Hence, I hope that this product would expand its shade selection soon.

For shade reference, I’ll be using cream beige. This shade is fit for fair to light skin with neutral undertones according to Happy Skin.

Smell:

I find that there is a similarity with the scent of this to my Revlon PhotoReady Candid Foundation. However, the Second Skin Tinted Moisturizer smells less chemical-like, almost like a powdery sunscreen, if that makes sense. In that case, the smell doesn’t bother me.

Price:

The Second Skin Tinted Moisturizer retails for Php799.00. It is available on Shopee, Lazada, BeautyMNL and Happy Skin’s Website. If you’ve come across this in any physical store, let me know in the comments section below.

Application:

The Second Skin Tinted Moisturizer is advised to be applied as follows:

  1. Use after or in place of moisturizer.
  2. Shake well and twist cover to uncap.
  3. Afterwards, squeeze to dispense two to three drops to skin.
  4. Lastly, spread and tap with fingertips until seamlessly blended.

I felt that it was fairly easy to blend the product on my skin when I used my fingertips. Also, I find it fairly easy to build up if I wanted more coverage.

Performance:

You may check my vlog below to see more visuals from upon application until the 12th hour mark.

Upon Application

The Second Skin Tinted Moisturizer indeed has a sheer to medium coverage. Additionally, I observed that it was able to tone down my redness and blur my imperfections. For its finish, it gave a healthy matte look which I like.

Another observation is that if you have very dry skin, you may opt to apply a different moisturizer. This is because this product actually clung on my pimples which are drying up.

As I did the rest of my makeup, I observed that my concealer sat well over it, and my powder blush had no weird patch whatsoever. So far, so good.

After 3 Hours

The product looked very natural on the face. However, I observed that the pimple marks on my cheek area looked more obvious. The rest of my makeup still stayed put, particularly from the apples of my cheeks up.

After 6 Hours

By the 6th hour mark, my face looked more “oilier” than usual. This is in the areas of my cheeks and on my forehead. Again, my pimple marks and redness on my cheeks (the area covered by face mask) looks more evident. With this, I can say that this product is actually not mask proof.

After 9 Hours

Indeed, if you have an oily type of skin, you need to set this product well to control its dewy radiant look. I think that was the most prominent quality I observed since I got the urge to blot. However, I realized that it was not my oil, rather the serum-rich veil that it gives.

After 12 Hours

I would say that this product was able to really go beyond its claim since my makeup still looks good even at the 12th hour mark. However, there’s a need to touch up specially if you want to tone down its radiant effect. Take note also that there was a significant decrease in its coverage on the areas covered by the face mask.

Verdict: I recommend the Happy Skin Second Skin Tinted Moisturizer!

Claims:

  • Featherweight, non-sticky skin tint with natural matte and sheer to buildable coverage

I agree! I didn’t feel as if I’m wearing makeup at all. Also, It’s easy to blend and apply using my fingertips. The finish looks heathy matte and it’s easy to build the coverage up to my liking.

  • Drenches skin in a serum-rich veil for a hydrated and radiant glow

I mentioned that it gave a healthy matte look, but as time goes by, it became dewy making my skin look hydrated and glowing. However, this may not be favorable for some specially since it may be confused with having oily skin.

  • Blurs imperfections, reduces blemishes and redness instantly and over time

Instantly, the Second Skin Tinted Moisturizer was able to blur my redness and dark pimple marks. I’ll continue using this product and I can’t wait to say goodbye to my imperfections.

  • Protects skin with SPF 20 and Anti-Blue Light Technology to block harmful rays emitted by sun and screen

This may seem technical so I cannot really say much about this claim, but I hope that this product has higher SPF level. Nonetheless, I’ll need more time to agree with this claim. This is, indeed, going to be a member of my everyday-makeup gang.
