Makeup Review: Sephora Collection Glow Perfection Foundation
The makeup lover in me won’t let any opportunity pass, specially when it’s free makeup that we’re talking about. So, hats off to all the free makeup testers given during checkout, LOL! This time, I’m going to review the Sephora Collection Glow Perfection Foundation. I instantly chose this upon my checkout because, I mean, its name has “glow” in it!
This foundation promises a buildable coverage which also evens and brightens the complexion. Moreover, it claims to leave the skin smooth while having that perfect radiant finish. Its lightweight formula contains hyaluronic acid and blends well with the skin. The skin will stay hydrated all day long to achieve a natural fresh finish. It also has soft focus pigments that help blur imperfections to achieve an even complexion. This fragrance-free and non-comedogenic formula really promises a lot of good and nice effects. If you want to know more if this foundation lives up to its claims, just keep on reading!
Makeup Breakdown
Packaging:
The Sephora Collection Glow Perfection Foundation comes in a glass tube which makes it unfriendly for travel. Unless, you are careful with your things or you’re able to store this safely in your luggage. It has a black pump, and on its cap, the word GLOW is spelled out and designed in a way that it makes me think of NYC. You get to see the foundation’s color shade on the glass as it is see-through.
Shade:
According to the Sephora PH website, the foundation has 28 shades. I think that this foundation has a pretty decent shade range. It has neutral, warm and cool undertones which are friendly for Filipino complexion. I will be trying out T25, named Beige, with neutral undertones.
Smell:
You don’t have to worry if you’re sensitive with scents. This foundation has no smell at all.
Price:
The Sephora Collection Glow Perfection Foundation is priced at Php 1,070.00 at the Sephora PH. This foundation is pricey, but is it worth the buy?
Application:
I tried applying this foundation using a makeup sponge on the right side of my face, while a foundation brush on the other side. Upon application, it appeared 2 shades lighter than how they market it. Meanwhile, its formula is a bit runny but rich, so there’s no need to worry about it setting fast. On the side of my face where I used a sponge, the foundation was easy to blend. However, I found it more difficult to apply the foundation using a brush. If ever you prefer using a foundation brush, work little by little through layering this foundation to reach your desired coverage.
Performance:
- Upon Application (8 AM)
I wanted to test this foundation on its own so I waited patiently for it to dry. Take note, though, that this foundation takes a lot of time to dry. Set this foundation with powder if you don’t want to wait half an hour for it to fully set. Once dried, I observed that it started to blend with my complexion, hence it oxidizes. Be careful when selecting your shade. It may also help if you go for half a shade lighter than your usual shade.
The foundation was able to fairly cover my blemishes, however, it didn’t sit properly on my dry patches and textures. Make sure you prep your skin well before you apply this foundation.
- 1 Hour After Application (9 AM)
After 1 hour, the foundation has finally dried and blended seamlessly with my complexion. However, the foundation settled on my laugh lines making it more prominent. It also blended well with my natural oils so the dry patches I had became less obvious.
- 4 Hours After Application (12 NN)
After 4 hours, the foundation looked the most natural. My mom even complimented me about my skin. However, my skin actually felt heavier as it blended on my skin. I’m not naturally oily but it made me look and feel oily.
- 8 Hours After Application (4 PM)
I didn’t retouch my makeup for 8 hours and this is how it looked. My skin is very oily on my forehead and cheeks, and a tad bit on my chin. At this point, the foundation has faded already. I asked my mom how it looked, and she was surprised by my question since she thought I already washed it off.
Verdict: I don’t recommend this product!
Claims:
- Buildable coverage while evening and brightening the complexion
I agree that this foundation has a buildable coverage, while evening and brightening the complexion. However, the brightening part actually surprised me because I think that my shade, appeared so light when I applied it. Nonetheless, this foundation achieves its shade once it has fully dried.
- Leaves the skin smooth with a perfect radiant or natural fresh finish
Upon application, the foundation really looks radiant. The smoothing and natural fresh finish can only be observed once this foundation has finally dried. Yet, it takes a long time for this to fully dry so you have to set this with powder if you don’t have much time to spare. Also, its radiant or natural fresh finish does not last long so it’s necessary to retouch with powder specially if your skin type is oily.
- Blends with the skin because of its lightweight texture
This foundation settled on my laugh lines because its formula is rich, making it appear and feel somewhat heavy. This is actually one of the reasons why this foundation threw me off. Both sides of my face, although I used a different makeup tool to apply the foundation, had similar issues on my laugh lines.
- Provides all day long hydration
I observed that the coverage of this foundation has reduced every passing hour. At the 8th hour mark, I asked my mom about how it appeared, and she answered, with a puzzled face, “I thought you removed it already.” Eek! With its hydration claims, I’m not particularly sure if it was my natural oil or the foundation doing its thing. However, I felt certain that it wasn’t the best feeling, since it was giving me yuck-y vibes. I wanted to remove it already on the 4th hour mark.
- Blurs imperfections and evens complexion because of its soft-focus pigments
This Sephora Collection Glow Perfection Foundation appeared weird on my nose because a part was dry and a bit flaky. The textures on my nose were not blurred as well. Hence, you really have to prep and prime your skin before you use this product.
