Makeup Review: Ever Bilena Chocolate Palette

A neutral eyeshadow palette is a basic necessity in everyone’s makeup stash. Taupes on the crease enhances the eyes and makes it more defined. Simply brushing true browns on the lids adds a hint of freshness back to the eyes. Meanwhile, caramel and off-white shades add more depth when it’s used to highlight the lid or brow bone. Luckily, Ever Bilena, a well-known Filipino makeup brand, just released a makeup palette rich with such shades. The Ever Bilena Chocolate Palette has 9 shades which are purely matte. It’s available on Lazada and Ever Bilena stalls and counters nationwide and it retails for P220.00.

Makeup Breakdown

Packaging:

The palette feels cheap and lightweight when held. It’s in a black plastic packaging in the shape of a square. It has a mirror that does not alter one’s reflection. Upon seeing the palette, I was instantly reminded of the Eye Shadow x 9 Palettes from MAC. The pans, however, were unexpectedly small; barely an inch in diameter. The palette is cruelty and paraben free, and has a PAO of 24 months. The palette weighs 7.5 grams and it’s made in China.

Shade:

The Chocolate Palette has 9 matte shades. Some of the shades look similar on the pan. However, they have different undertones when swatched. There are no shade names as well.

Smell:

The palette has no overpowering and lingering scent to it.

Application:

There was no problem with packing and blending the eyeshadows. I did not experience any fallout, or patchy areas. I’m honestly impressed with this product’s pigmentation.

Performance:

I have observed that the shades are not buttery when swatched on my arm, rather powdery-soft. Also, I don’t think that the formula were the same for all of the shades. There were 2 shades that were too chalky that even a single dip of the tip of the brush gets a ton of kickback. Specifically, they are the third and ninth from the top on my arm swatches. Verdict

I actually have mixed feelings with this palette. This product claims to be versatile. Also, it promises to color, contour and highlight the eyes for simple yet elegant everyday makeup looks. I agree to its claims. The drawback that I see from this palette is it’s chalky or powdery. With that, more product is wasted thus the ease of hitting pan. There’s a lot of excess pickup whenever I tapped the excess off of my brush. Hence, I don’t think that this palette is beginner-friendly. Well, it’s true that you get very pigmented eyeshadows. However the number of makeup looks are, I believe, limited because of the shades’ similarities. This palette could have been better if there were shimmers or pigments. Thus, if ever you’re thinking of getting this palette, I admit that it’s a good choice but not the best choice.
