Makeup Review: Dior Backstage Face and Body Foundation
Since Fenty Beauty has released, its campaign on inclusivity made a huge impact in the beauty community. This so called Fenty Effect encouraged more and more brands to widen their foundation shade selection. The well-known luxury makeup line, Dior, launched its Dior Backstage makeup collection. The inspiration of the collection is the backstage of runway shows. One of the makeup products in its collection is Dior’s most affordable foundation – Dior Backstage Face and Body Foundation. The foundation is priced at $40 but bought by my ever-supportive boyfriend in UK for £29. In Philippine Peso, that would be roughly around P2,000.00 to P2,250.00. The Dior Backstage Face and Body Foundation is Dior Beauty’s most inclusive range as of writing. With 40 shades, there’s surely a shade that would match every skin tone there is.
If you’ve been an avid reader of my blog posts, I favor foundations with skin-like finish. I don’t want a cake-y unnatural base and I always prefer my skin to peek through. Since this foundation claims to deliver what I want, I gave this product a go. This foundation claims to be long-wearing, waterproof and buildable up to medium coverage to achieve high-coverage perfection. Its formula melts into the skin to achieve a flawless and glowing natural complexion. Also, it’s built to resist extreme weather conditions like high humidity levels, intense heat and even workout sessions.
Makeup Breakdown
Packaging:
The Dior Backstage Face and Body Foundation comes in a velvet-y matte squeezable tube. The Dior brand, with its signature silver metallic look, is embossed on the packaging. It contains 50 ml or 1.6 fl. Oz and has a PAO of 12 months. When held, I think that it doesn’t feel as luxurious as my Fenty Pro Filt’r Foundation.
Shade:
This foundation has a total of 40 shades with 16 intensities. It also has 6 undertones which vary from beige, cool, olive, peach, pink- and yellow-based. Dior’s website has a shade selection part to ensure that you’d get your best suited shade. It asks a few questions suggests around three shades. There’s also an option to compare 2 shades at a time on their website. The two shades are placed side by side for easy comparison.
I got the shade 3W and I think that it’s my perfect summer shade. I think that I could go a pint higher because my tan has faded already. However, I found out that this blended well with my current complexion. I don’t need to repurchase anymore.
Smell:
The foundation has a faint clean smell to it. I think that there’s actually some perfume in it making it smell a bit luxurious as well.
Application:
According to Dior, there are three ways to wear the foundation depending on what coverage one wants to achieve.
- To achieve a light nude coverage, it is advised to use fingers to dab and massage 1 layer of foundation.
- For a medium coverage, apply two layers using a flat brush starting from the center of the face outwards.
- A round brush is ideal to use, with circular motions, in applying 3 layers of foundation for a full coverage.
During my first impression, I just wanted to achieve an even skin, thus I opted to use my hand and apply it. Also, I didn’t want to use sponge since the formula is a bit runny. The foundation blended well and fast! I got the coverage I wanted even if I only used a peanut-sized of foundation on my entire face and neck.
Performance:
- Upon application (7AM)
The foundation looks so perfect! The makeup products I applied over it blended smoothly. There were no patchy areas. Also, my complexion became even. I have no negative comments at all.
- 6 hours after application (1PM)
I didn’t (I hate to, actually) retouch. After 6 hours of staying on my face, I’m very much impressed. I stayed in an air-conditioned place, sweated a lot and even touched some parts of my face. My blush has faded a bit but my highlighter is still visible.
- 12 hours after application (7PM)
I applied makeup over the foundation without retouching. I used a bit of powder to tone down my natural oils. My face still has an even coverage. I could easily get away and just say that the foundation was just freshly applied. Well, 12 hours have passed and it still looks this good. Applause, please.
Verdict: I recommend this product!
Claims:
1. Ultra-buildable coverage with second-skin finish
I have yet to test if this foundation could be easily built and layered. However, for the second-skin finish, I truly agree! It made me look as if I have a perfect skin.
2. Extreme condition proof
When all else melts, I stunned! Philippines’ climate is hot and humid. Given that I didn’t retouch but still looked flawless, that’s a major bonus point!
3. Photo-ready natural glow finish
My mom is my ultimate makeup critic, and she mentioned how flawless my face looked. I looked as if I woke up from a 1-week hiatus replenished and ready to slay. When in fact, I was even lacking sleep due to rushing paper works.

I love the look of this makeup! I need to invest in some good quality makeup and this might just be it!
It looks beautiful on you. I like how smooth it is. I wish it didn’t have perfume in it. This would totally break me out as I have very sensitive skin.
I’m impressed with the coverage of this foundation and how good it still looks after 6 hours! It’s definitely great value for money and a quality high end product!
Ouuuu loving this! What a great package, and I KNOW Dior is quality!
Yes I agree with mom, your face looked fantastic 12 hours later with the foundation. I have been looking for a foundation that is not cakey or look like you have foundation on. I will have to give it a try. Thanks for the review.
I am not using any make up but I found this product as a good one because my sister is also using this and it looks really beautiful.
Love this review! I’ve never tried the Dior Foundation but I do like Estée Lauder Double wear. Loving your blog!
I love this foundation, it’s so gorgeous. I love how this looks on your skin, you look flawless.
Never wear foundation but this looks like a great one!
Damn, they are really good. But I hardly use foundation. I only use concealer and lippy
I loved that you showed us how it looked after a few hours, so we know we don’t have to reapply all the time!
will definitely look into this. i think super worth it ang price. btw, where did you get those earrings? are those crochet? ang ganda!
Wow! I love foundation and have spent a lot of money on foundation that doesn’t work for me. I will have to check this one out to see if it will work for me!
I really can never find foundation I like. I don’t want cakey and I deal with oily skin. That’s why I just top off with a light powder. Maybe this is worth looking into.
