500 Pesos Ukay Challenge: 4-Day Summer Getaway
Hello, beautiful soul! As you may or may not know, I’m the type of person who always travel. Aside from pure passion, my job demands me to travel every now and then. I like travelling – the process where I get to contemplate, watch every passing scene, and see people as they come and go. That also includes my love to plan my outfits. The extra in me doesn’t want to repeat outfits as much as possible, especially bikinis! Don’t get me wrong but I’m no fashionista. I planned to do blog like how I pack, but I thought of adding a little bit of a challenge. Since I’m going to buy my outfits for my #OOTDs, I thought why not stick to a budget and buy in thrift shops, or ukay-ukay?
The challenge was to stick to P500.00 and buy outfit good for 4 days. Sounds easy, right? But it was definitely not! It’s just right to call this a challenge, and I’m happy with my steals. Before I show you what I got, I’ll first list down the things that I considered upon choosing.
Things to consider when shopping for a summer getaway:
- Weight– Getaways are fun until you found out you went beyond your baggage allowance. Always consider the weight of the clothes you carry. You wouldn’t want to break neither your budget nor your back from carrying your things.
- Material – Choose clothes which are thin because they dry fast. Summer time means the weather is humid and hot, so it’s better to go for clothes with good “ventilation” to keep you fresh all day.
- Versatility – Personally, i like wearing bikinis so I always consider how the clothes could double up as cover-ups. It’s not always that you could go shower, freshen up and change any time you want, too. Consider other options how you could use and wear your clothes.
- Comfort – Of course, it’s the number one rule in the fashion world. Forget it if it hurts or bugs you in any way – easy.
Below are the things I got in the order of lowest to highest price. I got them at the 2nd floor of Manna Mall, Biday Road, City of San Fernando La Union, and the thrift shop (sorry i forgot to take note of the store’s name *sob*) across the Chowking at Eso-Nice Cinema Building Gov. Luna St., City of San Fernando, La Union.
I chose this shirt because the material is so thin. I could use this as cover-up and it’s nice because the size is so large. The color is powder pink and definitely looks and feel fresh when worn. The bottom part of the front is shorter than the back, too. I don’t know about the collar though, but I like it.
This shirt is made of thick fabric (I apologize for not knowing the technical terms). I got it because it’s black and I could use this to stroll around or in the airport/plane. Black is good to retain heat so this is nice because I easily get an upset stomach when I’m cold. This shirt has a V-neck and the hems are not sewn. It’s definitely a street-style. The bottom part of the shirt is not the same – the front is 3 inches higher than the back.
This one’s a very nice cardigan. The arm and back is sheer, but the end of the sleeves and bottom part where the sides meet the button and holes is made of like a corduroy-type of cloth. I like it because it’s black and it’s easy to pair it with other clothes. It’s so lightweight too!
Even though this one’s denim, I like it because it’s not heavy at all. It feels very comfortable to walk around with. It’s easy to pair this with any top, too!
Off-shoulders are still a thing, right? This one’s definitely fresh and flattering to everyone! Need I say more?
When I tried this on for the first time, I felt like I was back in Bangkok! This, too, is very lightweight and long enough that it reaches down to my knees. This dries fast so I know that I don’t have to worry about getting short of clothes. This dress feels so fresh and looks a bit sexy because of its neckline.
The first time I saw this, I knew that I had to get it (better catch up with the view of the sun and beaches). Luckily it was my size. Even if the material is not cotton, this top is not too fitted. It fits just right that I can still freely move around without any “huggy” feeling.
Honestly, I had second thoughts of getting this dress because corset dresses are so yesterday. The main reason why I still went for it is because I don’t need the wear bra underneath anymore. That saves me effort from carrying around extra clothing. This dress also looks cute, so heck… why not?
Last, but definitely not the least, is this very chic shorts. Yes, it’s odd that the most expensive out of all of this ukay challenge is a pair of shorts. But come to think of it, I could pair this as well with any kind of top. The size of the hip is a little bit big for me but I like it so I can just move freely. White looks so prim so I couldn’t let this go the moment I hold on to it. The only downside of this is its weight.
Thus the result of this challenge is…
9 pieces of clothing for a total of P430.00!
I could say that I’m very happy with my steals. I won’t forget the heat me and my best friend (shoutout to Kamille! Thanks b for the patience!) had to endure. It was definitely fun!
