Will this New Ever Bilena Two Way Cake Serum Foundation Hit the Mark?

As soon as I saw that this upgraded version of the OG Ever Bilena Two Way Cake Foundation, I had to get it. I was very much curious if this could be the perfect dupe for the GRWM Velvet Setting Powder because they have 2 similar key ingredients – squalane and kaolin. Moreover, I got excited because this one is cheaper by half price. The Ever Bilena Plus Two Way Cake Serum Foundation is a lightweight powder foundation. It can be used dry to achieve sheer to medium coverage. Also, it can be used wet for full coverage. I’ll be testing its claims which are: anti-aging, moisturizing and oil controlling.

Key Ingredients:

1. Squalane

According to Allure, Squalane can lock in moisture while promoting elasticity. Also, it balances the oil production without clogging the pores. This amazing ingredient is beneficial to all skin types.

2. Vitamin E

Allure stated that Vitamin E combats free-radical damage while ensuring the skin is well-hydrated.

3. Kaolin

Dubbed as a game changer for oily skin by Byrdie, Kaolin targets excess oil, blackheads, and shine. This results to a matte-looking skin that’s also softer and smoother.

Makeup Breakdown: Ever Bilena Two Way Cake Serum Foundation

Packaging:

Based on its look and feel, the Ever Bilena Two Way Cake Serum Foundation feels very lightweight hence its cheap feel. It appears that it would break easily when accidentally dropped on the floor. Nonetheless, this product has a mirror with it, which is nice for on the go. Also, it comes with a sponge applicator that feels very soft to the feel. It feels a bit velvet-y, but leans towards rubber-like. It’s thin so it would be easy to slip this in a purse.

It weighs 9 grams, has a PAO of 12 months and is vegan. Moreover, it’s cruelty-, lanolin- and paraben-free and packaging is recyclable. This also helps protect the skin, thanks to its UV filter. I’d appreciate it though if the SPF level is indicated. I wasn’t able to search for it. Do let me know in the comment below if you’re able to find it! Last, but not the least detail is it’s made in Taiwan.

Shade:

As of writing, this currently has two (2) available shades. White beige is the lightest, and there’s Oriental for fair-medium skin tones. For this review, I got the shade Oriental since it’s the one closest to my complexion. There’s not much options so I hope Oriental would work just fine.

Smell:

I find the smell of this quite similar to the GRWM Velvet Setting Powder. It doesn’t smell fragrant, but it doesn’t smell bad, too.

Price:

The Ever Bilena Two-Way Cake Serum Foundation is sold at a price of P250.00. Considering it has almost the same key ingredient with the GRWM Velvet Setting Powder, I think this is cheaply priced. If this works well, then it’s going to be its perfect dupe.

Application:

This product’s packaging says to use a wet sponge for foundation. Meanwhile, using a dry sponge will give a powder coverage.

Upon swirling my fingers to swatch this product, it felt very powdery. Nonetheless, applying the product with a damp sponge gives a fuller coverage. Also, the finish doesn’t look cakey even if I build the coverage by using both dry and damp sponge.

Performance:

Verdict: I don’t recommend the Ever Bilena Two Way Cake Serum Foundation

Claims:

  • Anti-aging

It’s actually difficult to test this claim since it’s unclear how it’d help slow down aging. Maybe it’s because of its UV filter. However, its SPF level is not specified so this one is questionable for me.

  • Moisturizing

I did not have any dry patches and it didn’t settle on dry areas around my acne marks. However, its moisturizing effect affected its ability to control oil. I was actually puzzled if it’s just the makeup looking dewy at the 3rd-4th hour mark, or it was already my natural oils.

  • Can control oil

I disagree since I looked oily (or dewy?) already starting at the 3rd hour mark. That’s too soon to be retouching already. Honestly, I had high hopes because it has kaolin and squalane which are oil-controlling ingredients.
