Makeup Review: BLK All-Day Matte Liquid Foundation

Achieve immaculate, second-skin coverage from BLK’s latest foundation. The BLK All-Day Matte Liquid Foundation is claimed to be the smoothest liquid foundation there is right now. It promises an ultra-blendable and moisturizing formula that delivers a silky and weightless finish where it blends with the complexion. I was so happy to hear that it promises a comfortable natural-looking effect. I’m so excited to share to you my experience when I tried this a-little-goes-a-long-way foundation that claims to be used either as a spot-corrector or a full-face perfecter.

The BLK All-Day Matte Liquid Foundation was released around the last quarter of 2018 and it retails for PHP 499.00. I got mine from BeautyMNL and it is also available on BLK’s official site and stores nationwide. The PAO of the foundation is 12 months.

Makeup Breakdown

Packaging:

blk foundation

The foundation comes in a glass packaging which looks familiar with Maybelline’s 24-hour Superstay Foundation. The only difference is that BLK’s cap and pump appears black in color and the brand BLK is printed. It’s not travel-friendly because it’s a bit heavy and prone to breaking. The pump is a bit tricky to use specially when controlling the amount to dispense. I had a difficult time doing a half-pump on the packaging.

Shade:

There are currently three shades available for the BLK All-Day Matte Liquid Foundation. The lightest shade is Porcelain which is a light beige hue. The second shade, Sand, looks like a natural beige hue. Honey is the darkest shade; described to have a warm beige hue. I chose Sand because I think it was the safest shade for me. My complexion right now is  currently light-olive.

Smell:

The foundation has a faint smell to it. It’s insignificant and it doesn’t bother that much.

Application:

The formula of the foundation is very thick and I agree that a little goes a long way. One pump is already enough to cover my entire face and neck. The first time I applied it is through a damp sponge. Then, sometime, I came across a video of Anne Curtis applying it on with a foundation brush. I used a stippling brush on my second try because I prefer and want to achieve a skin-like natural finish. To be honest, I didn’t like how it looked when used with a damp sponge. The finish feels thick and not skin-like. It appears to be just sitting on my face compared to when I used a stippling brush. The foundation appears more skin-like and natural with a stippling brush.

Performance: Applied with a damp sponge

  • Upon Application (7AM)
blk foundation

The foundation looks like skin-like. It blended well with my complexion.

  • 3 hours after application (10AM)

The foundation has seemingly whitened after hours of wearing it. It has also faded a bit on the sides of my lips. It looks patchy on my chin and feels heavy already.

  • 6 hours after application (1PM)

My skin doesn’t look healthy anymore. The coverage doesn’t appear the same all over my face.

  • 9 hours after application (4PM)

By this time, my face looks very tired already. I felt greasy and I just wanted to remove my makeup ASAP.

  • 12 hours after application (7PM)

This foundation is definitely not an all day matte foundation. It’s name is contrary to its performance.

Performance: Applied with a stippling brush

  • Upon Application (7AM)

The coverage looks more skin-like compared when applied with a damp sponge.

  • 6 hours after application (1 PM)

Even though the coverage was sheer when applied with a stippling brush, the foundation emphasized my laugh lines. One could easily tell that I’m wearing makeup because of how heavy and thick it looks on my skin.

  • 9 hours after application (4PM)

There are already a few small bumps around my nose area. Face powders such as blush and bronzer has faded away already.

  • 12 hours after application (7PM)

My face basically looks like it’s full of oil even if I’m not an oily person.

Verdict: I don’t recommend it

Claims

  • Silky, smoothest and weightless liquid foundation:

I agree that the formula is smooth but I don’t agree that it’s the smoothest there is in the market. My Dior Face and Body Foundation is far smoother than this foundation. Also, it is not weightless as it becomes cakey after hours of wearing it. I don’t also get it why it’s called an all-day matte foundation. Its formula leans more towards healthy-dewy which won’t be in favor to those with oily skin type.

  • Ultra-blendable and moisturizing:

I had no trouble blending the foundation either with a brush or a sponge. I didn’t have any dry patches as well and my skin appears luminous and healthy.

  • Natural-looking and comfortable makeup look

The foundation only appeared natural on its first 2 hours of wear. Its shade eventually lightens as time goes by. I don’t like that it appears cakey and shows the creases on my nose and smile/laugh line. I also don’t agree that it’s comfortable to wear. As much as possible, I don’t want to feel that I am wearing makeup, most specially foundation. Even if I set it with powder, it made my skin appear oily and dewy, and felt heavy after a few hours.

  • A little goes a long way

I agree. If only its pump is easy to control, then I would pass as just using half a pump of foundation.
